Dear
Friend,
Medicine is an amazing and dynamic field to be practicing as we approach the end of 2009. In these dynamic times, with the American administration, the economic crisis, the health care debate, and more, I see opportunity. Opportunity to reflect, evaluate, and act to affect positive change. This is what the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) was built upon sixty years ago and that the Foundation continues to support; taking action to improve the future of healthcare in the Unites States and around the world. With hundreds of thousands of AMSA alumni, we can honestly say we have made a difference in developing leaders in health care, and through the hands-on work of our medical student membership! But we cannot stop now, there is plenty more for the AMSA Foundation to do to help AMSA propel forward in its mission.
If you are an AMSA alumnus or would like to become a new friend, we want to hear from you. We need your support. We need your thoughts and ideas about the future. We need your time as a volunteer (there are many volunteer opportunities through AMSA), and we need your financial support!
I ask you to do two things for AMSA:
- If you are not yet an AMSA member, please join - there is a membership category for you!
- Volunteer your time. They say you always gain more from volunteering than you give! If you are an alumnus, you will remember fondly your AMSA experiences, and all that being an AMSA member did for you. Now, as a physician, you can give back to the next generation. Express your interest in volunteering as a speaker, mentor a student, assist your alma mater’s chapter with an event, and more! The right opportunity exists for you!
I cannot close this letter without thanking the individual donors to the AMSA Foundation, as well as the partner organizations, foundations, and government entities that support and collaborate with us daily. You make it all possible. Thank you and let’s do more!
Sincerely,
William J. Kassler, MD, MPH
AMSA Foundation Board President
