Giving to the AMSA Foundation

Below is a list of various opportunities where we welcome your support for AMSA and its strategic priorities through a gift to the AMSA Foundation. For additional information about AMSA’s strategic priorities, please visit http://www.amsa.org/AMSA/Homepage/About/Priorities.aspx.

Health Care Access and Quality
AMSA mobilizes students in advocating for quality, affordable health care for all. AMSA works through state and national coalitions to improve existing public programs and to advocate for a public national health insurance program.
Examples of programs supported in this category:

  • Paul Ambrose Health Care for All Institute
  • Community and Public Health Institute
  • SeaCouver Study Tour
  • Environmental Health Institute
  • Rural health education programs
  • Activities and advocacy related to community and public health, health policy, primary care, environmental health, geriatrics and pediatrics
  • Educational programming focusing on health disparities, patient safety and health care quality

Global Health Equity
This encompasses the issues of wellness, safety, opportunity, and environment which make up a healthy society. It also highlights the interconnected nature of all people and our responsibility for rational and proportional assistance for all people, regardless of which country they live in. Justice and equity are paramount to assuring that race, religion, income, gender, sexual preference or nationality are not factors limiting access to quality care.
Examples of programs supported in this category:

  • Global Health Scholars Program
  • Health Disparities Institute
  • Health Equity Scholars Program
  • Microbicides Leadership Institute
  • AIDS Leadership Institute
  • Global Health Leadership Institute
  • Premed Global Health Leadership Institute
  • Study tours and international exchanges (inc. IFMSA)
  • Activities and advocacy related to HIV/AIDS and other infectious and communicable diseases, global health, human rights and emergency preparedness

Diversity in Medicine
As the world becomes more integrated and mobile, the need for a health care workforce to reflect our society increases. AMSA’s independence was fueled by the civil rights era and continues today in advocacy for culturally appropriate care, underrepresented providers in medicine, and admission criteria which do not exclude those from different backgrounds.
Examples of programs supported in this category:

  • Women’s Empowerment Institute
  • Health and Disabilities Leadership Institute
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Leaders Summit
  • Widening the Pipeline/mentoring youth into health careers
  • Activities and advocacy related to gender and sexuality, disabilities, ethnicity, race, religion and other factors
  • LGBT white coat pocket educational cards

Professionalism and Student Well-Being
Physicians have long had a sacred social mission and our patients expect us to uphold our value and professionalism. The undue influence of dual-loyalties to industry or investments undermines our care. AMSA is also committed to helping all students through the long process of medical school admissions, undergraduate medical education and career choices in residency and beyond.
Examples of programs supported in this category:

  • Medical Humanities Scholars Program
  • Premedical Leadership Institute
  • Patient Safety and Professionalism Institute
  • Circle of Healers
  • PharmFree Leadership Institute
  • Spirituality in Medicine Institute
  • Humanistic Elective in alternative medicine, Activism and Reflective Transformation (HEART) Elective
